So funny you think it looks like ringadingaling
Icelandic is a rather complicated language so here it goes:
It's raining = Það rignir
to rain = rigna
rain (noun) = rigning
The rain = rigningin
Hope this helps a little to explain the Icelandic "ringadingaling."
Thank you for this explanation. Indeed, Icelandic seems even more complicated than I previously thought. Does the "in" in "rigningin" mean "the." For example, does "Magniin" mean "The Magni"? Or is it another can of worms.

An example: A baby = barn the baby = barnið a woman = kona the woman = konan a man = maður the man = maðurinn

| I got up early to watch the Opening Cermonies live on CBC here in Canada. I don't understand why the U.S. makes such a big deal of showing them tape delayed in the evening. Why not show them live then repeat them later for people that don't want to get up so early? The Chinese did an awesome job. Next is here in Vancouver in 2010 for the Winter Olympics!!!!!!!!!! We will not be spending anywhere near what the Chinese did. If they tried that there would be a lynch mob of angry citizens.

Well the biggest audience on a weekday here is going to be prime time so I'll grant them that - it went on while the east coast was at work or on the way to work, although I could've seen it then because I did happen to take last Friday off. But NBC is not just NBC, they got three or four other channels on cable, they could've shown it live on MSNBC or something like that and then the main channel later. I hear the Europeans are a bit pissed at the US that they scheduled the swimming, gymnastics and other marquee events in the morning so NBC can show it live in the evening here, because that means it's the middle of the night in Europe.
I've been catching up on stuff and I just read last night how much that cost...yowza! I think there'd be outcry here too if we spent that much on that, $150 mill yes, but not $300 mill!
