Oh Lolinna ... I love this song!  She's got such a beautiful voice and everytime I hear the song it brings me back to my last visit to Iceland.  I heard it on the radio every day.

Did she sing in the US ever?  I either heard about her or heard her sing before this.

I'm looking forward to seeing how this entry does this year.  When is it?

...hope you are doing well~

Hi Lolinna! It's always so good to hear from you!

Thanks for posting the vids - I really like to hear your perspective on things, and I'm always interested to hear what other people are listening to, so this stuff is right up my alley. I liked it! I think the song is catchy (can you say that about ballads?), and she's obviously very talented, with a really pretty voice. She makes it look easy. My favorite was the acapella version.

I think Jóhanna's story is amazing! I know I've seen her on Magni's Myspace friends for a while. It sounds like she's been groomed for pop stardom her entire life and now that she's 18, it looks like it's happening for her. I wish Iceland luck in the finals!!

Thanks for sharing, Lolinna, and come by more often, will you? I miss hearing from you!

I've been slow lately getting to stuff on this board... Anyway, besides the one Magni played on, I remember that this was the only song of the eight I heard during qualifying that I liked so it was a good choice, I think.

Haven't listened closely to the Spanish version yet (and my Spanish is not great), but I can tell you the title is not the same - it's If You Go.

I saw today this video of the first rehearsal of the song in Moscow the other day:

I think one of her backup singers is Hera Bjork, who was one of the other singers with Magni on the big Queen tribute in March.

Well I just found out the most excellent thing today...Google Translate has finally added Icelandic to the languages it does...and it's halfway UNDERSTANDABLE! It's not perfect of course, but it is way, Way, WAY better than previous online translators. Definitely can get the basic gist most of the time. No more river this and river that... Also will do web pages in context, although it won't do personal Facebook pages and has format problems with the public ones, have to copy/paste anything from those. Haven't tried it the opposite way yet, but Icelandic to English is a major improvement!

Nah, all I do is share my independent findings. Most of them, anyway.

Just so y'all know, another Rock Star alum who is hard to get outside their native habitat, Storm Large, is on the move and playing a couple of shows in LA and one in NY! The schedule is:

November 19 - Molly Malone's, LA
November 20 - Genghis Cohen, LA
December 1 - Joe's Pub, NYC

I will of course be at the Joe's Pub gig, which ironically is on you know who"s birthday. Will have to do with Storm...

The Icelandic Eurovision finals just concluded - the song I liked best came in second, but the usual Eurodisco blehness won. Magni was not a participant at all this year although he has performed with most of this year's finalists, including the winner, and some of his Killer Queen bandmates. If you are curious, you can watch the finals here:

But wait...there's that goofball with the A Moti Sol sign again at 20:04 of the program...

I so agree with you there Pop, I love Hera Björk as an artist but that song is so not going to do good things in Eurovision this year, it should have been Jógvan going IMO.

BUT, have you ever heard of the Icelandic band Dikta?  I think it's to your liking.  Check them out on tonlist.is.  Their newest album is called "Get it together"

Lolinna, where have you been, I was wondering what you thought... They should just forego the big show every week and send performance audio of all the songs to you and I and just have us pick who goes to Eurovision.

I've seen the name but have not sampled Ditka - I will give them a listen when I get the chance at some point.
