Icelandic Worm Monster?

Since it's kind of slow at the site today, I figured you all wouldn't mind if I diverged from a Magni-related topic. Because this truly was too good to pass up!

Please Icelanders...tell me what gives with this "Worm Monster" I heard about on a show called "Destination Truth". Unfortunately, I did not see the episode so I am really curious about this mysterious creature. Is it like the Loch Ness monster? Have any of you actually seen it? Here is a description from the "Destination Truth" website:

"Iceland: The Worm Monster
[Josh Gates] is on the hunt for a huge worm said to reside in the remote Lake Lagarfljót in Iceland. The Worm Monster has been spotted consistently since 1345, and is one of the oldest lake monsters ever (more or less) recorded. Inspired by supernovafans, 861dotinfo, and encouraged by Lee (mama) I'm starting a Haiku thread.

For those of you that do not know what a Haiku is, here's a short description: Haikus are short poems of three lines. Line one has five syllables, line two has seven and line three has five. Preferably line one shall be a statement or ended with a dot or something.

So, here's the first Magni-Ficent HAIKU:

The band with no name!
threw out Magni, Storm, House Band
Are they so afraid?

Magni will Rock on!
Needs no help from name-less band.

Most AMS albums now online

We've been talking about that it's difficult to buy past AMS albums...but hey, looks like most all of them have just been put online at Tonlist.is, the only one (with Magni) that I don't see is the last one but those are on the other albums, plus also they just put up Hvar sem eg fer and Hver einasti dagur, so that basically is the last album. Note that Gumpurinn is pre-Magni, just sayin'. :) The AMS listing is here:

Single #3 from the new album is coming soon.

'Sé þig kannski seinna' or ' Maybe I'll see you later'.

It's more up tempo than the other two singles :D

They're taking all the time they need to make the album as good as it possibly can be, so no date, it'll just come when ready - like U2's new album:P And like U2 they hit a gold mine and are working it :cool:

Is wool itchy? What the heck does it mean its been brushed? Will this new scarf expect to be pampered and taken to a beauty salon? I usually dont groom my clothing, the still seem to like me. I really dont want to make a puchase and find out my new scarf is high maintenance, and if it makes me talk about my feelings all the time so help me I will send it back!

It's hit the paper in Iceland, so I guess I can say it here - Magni has been having a health issue recently - he's not dying or been bed-ridden or anything like that - but it has put a damper on his singing and recording the new AMS album, and last week he had a little surgery to try to correct it, which he came through fine - he's been home, online and communicating since then. I think the article says that he will be off for about six weeks or so. I'll leave it to an Icelander to translate the article more fully:

I just want to thank the girls that were at the show last night for putting up those vids - of course they had to put up the one song I sang in a wife beater ;)- I´m never doing that again btw.

Magni just added a recording from 2004 of a song called "Lítill drengur" or "Little boy" in english, written and sung by Vilhjálmur Vilhjálmsson. This is a very old song (from 1977) and the singer died a year later in a car accident in Luxembourg. Next month a concert will be held in memorial of Vilhjalmur, since there is now 30 years since he died. Sadly, Magni will not be part of the group of singers, singing at that concert:crying:

We just had an earthquake at 6,7, beetween Hvergerði og Selfoss, almost in Magni's backyard :w00t::w00t:

No casualty but a lot of damage.

People feelt it in a big radius.

I was at work and was downstairs in the workshop having coffee and smoke and didn't feel a thing but when I came upstairs the guy's were talking about things were shaking but they thought that was because the guys at the workshop were moving a big bulldozer :D

I said to them, we wouldn't know if there'd be a big quake and then I heard it in the radio on my way home - it was actually a quake this time :P

Icelandic station Ras2 will be broadcasting live from the Braedslan show this Saturday, July 26th. As you know, Magni put the show together this year as well performing at it. While I don't think it will be archived for later listening (by the radio station), us peeps outside of Iceland should be able to catch it live on the web at [url=http://dagskra.ruv.is/streaming/ras2/live/]http://dagskra.ruv.is/streaming/ras2/live/[/url]. The broadcast will be from 20.00-23.00 GMT - that's 4-7PM Eastern/1-4PM Pacific in the Americas. It looks like there's also a half-hour pre-show starting at 19.30 GMT/3:30PM Eastern/12:30PM Pacific. I don't know where Magni will be in the order, although he definitely won't be last as Damien Rice is the headliner and there are two other singers besides him and Magni - Disa and Eivor Palsdottir. He'll probably be first or second, I reckon.

Will be interesting to hear what kind of set Magni does, hopefully at least a couple of tunes will be in English. :hehe:

Just wondering where the members of this site are from. I am from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. Please excuse my ignorance, but do a lot of people in Iceland speak/read English? I notice the members on this site also have the same class and respect as Magni does. None of the hateful bashing that is posted on MSN Rock Star site. Of course, there are a lot of good folks on there too. I have a feeling that Magni's fans REALLY are glad he wasn't chosen because I just don't think he fits in with those guys. Magni absolutely rocked with the house band - the number one talent in the entire show. I am anxious to see/hear more from Magni.:cool:

New AMS single ?

We might have a new AMS single in a short while.

I heard an interview with Magni were he said they were going to the studio to record, what I belived to be, a new single.

Later this month they'll be going to Denmark to finish the album:D

The ticket sale to Bræðslan is up for a good start, 1/3 allready sold:D

It's been so very quiet in here lately - we're just sitting and waiting for some news.

It is not confirm yet whether or not CBS is bringing back RockStar this summer.

We can't let that happen! We got a great band back with RockStar:INXS, as well as JD, Marty, Suzie... We got to discover many great artists with RockStar:Supernova... Lukas, Toby and Juke Kartel, Magni, Dilana, Storm and her balls, Ryan, Josh...

And please, let's not forget that with both seasons, we discovered the talented musicians of the House Band... Jim, Paul, Nate, Rafa and Sasha. Those guys rocked our TV for both summers, and we love them for it! Without the TV show, most of us would have never heard of them or of their music.

The vast majority of us would have never heard of all those talented people if it was not for RockStar!!! We need a third season! We need this great show on our tv this summer again!

If some of you watch So you think you can dance, there are 2 Icelandic dancers taking part in the audition in Milwaukee tonight. Their names are Hjördís Lilja and Steve Lorenz. I'm hoping they will get past at least to Vegas auditions. Looking at their myspace's they are really talented dancers.

If any of you will be watching the show tonight (starting in an hour or so) it would be nice to hear from you how they did since the show isn't airing here in Iceland until June 23 for some reason:crazy:

I was just reading the local free paper and saw that Agust Gumundsson will be giving a lecture at Universty of Victoria on Icelandic film making Friday night. This is part of the Richard and Margaret Beck Lectures on Iceland. Emmmmmm maybe a certain Icelandic singer could one day give a lecture on Icelandic MUSIC!!!!!! 12...World alone: Phew! Yet another beautifully written song, but the recurring theme of bad relationships, being alone, breaking up...is starting to depress me!

13...Dolphins Cry: Amazing! I will NEVER get tired of listening to Magni cover this song. Probably could have trimmed-back some of the clapping, cheering at the end of the song. Just a little developmental feedback from smithers.

I LOVE the CD! Sure, the resounding theme is a buzzkill, but it is REAL...it is honest...and Magni's vocals are amazing! Well done, Magni! Well done!
